POLLARDING

Tree pollarding is an ancient technique that was originally used to provide materials for tools, and also to feed livestock.

Nowadays, in modern times, it is a method of keeping fast-growing trees managed and keeps a tree from growing out of control. This pruning method keeps trees looking their best by removing the smaller shoots and branches.

Pollarding brings balance back to a tree and may be the best course of action to take for a number of reasons. Though beneficial, this method is a delicate process that should only ever be performed by professional tree surgeons. Applying this to the wrong type of tree or performing it incorrectly, could be harmful to the tree.
